Tia McKenzie Jackson is a Clarksdale, Mississippi native. She earned her Master of Arts in Journalism at the University of Mississippi. Prior to Ole Miss, Tia attended Tougaloo College and earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communication.
While at Tougaloo, Tia served as a writer for the Harambee Newspaper, as well as producer and anchor for Eagle Eye News. She credits Tougaloo College for helping her establish her foundation in storytelling.
Tia served as music director and disc jockey for Rebel Radio 92.1 FM at the University of Mississippi. She produced an array of content, including her very first documentary.
Tia currently works as a new reporter in Memphis, Tennessee. While working as a reporter in Jackson, Mississippi she covered an array of impactful stories. From the Rankin County Goon Squad case to Rolling Fork Rising, Tia has created a name for herself beyond Journalism.

Tia J. is a global Hip-Hop/Rap artist with her own unique style, flow, and distinctive voice. Lauryn Hill, EVE, Missy Elliot, and Nicki Minaj are some inspirational women she draws from.
Known for her captivating freestyles and hard-hitting metaphors, Tia J. is also an activist. In her free time she works with organizations and clubs to bring about change in her community.
She has dropped several EPs and albums, including her most recent one entitled “Solitaire.”
Tia J. has performed in several different arenas throughout her career. From Jackson, MS to Atlanta, GA, she brings her electrifying energy and passion to every scene.

In June 2021, the rapper took the city of Memphis by storm after winning first place in @thepyramid901 ’s “Flex or Next” competition. Her “Baddie” track from her first project entitled “Boss Up” gained media attention and has been played on stations such as Rebel Radio, Street Madness Radio, and WYXR.
Tia enjoys capturing moments through photography, writing songs, and traveling.
